Golden Turmeric Rice

The simplest upgrade to plain rice. Golden, fragrant, and pairs with everything.

Serves: 4

Ingredients

     1½ cups basmati rice

     1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp coconut oil or butter

     2 garlic cloves, minced

     350 ml water or broth

     ½ tsp salt

Method

1.  Rinse rice: Rinse basmati rice under cold water until water runs clear. Drain well.

2.  Sauté garlic: Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute.

3.  Toast rice: Add drained rice and turmeric. Stir for 1 minute to coat each grain.

4.  Cook: Add water and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.

5.  Rest and fluff: Remove from heat. Rest covered for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

Tip: Rinsing rice removes excess starch for fluffier results. Use the absorption method for best results.

Health Facts

Turmeric + fat: Cooking turmeric in coconut oil or butter increases curcumin solubility, ensuring your body absorbs significantly more.

Basmati rice: Lower glycaemic index than standard white rice, meaning slower glucose release and better blood sugar control.

Garlic: Contains prebiotic fibres (fructooligosaccharides) that feed beneficial gut bacteria and support immune function.

Coconut oil (MCTs): Medium-chain triglycerides are rapidly metabolised for energy and have antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
