GOLDEN MILK

Now days we have a much better understanding of food and how it’s not just there to fill you up.  Depending on the food we eat, it can nourish and heal the body.  Inflammation in the body can result in diseases such as heart disease or stroke and inflammation of the joints often leads to autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

There are a number of foods you can eat that have natural anti-inflammatory properties this Golden Milk recipe is a delicious way to begin. Anti-Inflammatory Golden Milk, also called turmeric milk, is a popular beverage throughout Asia and is known by some as “liquid gold.” Similar to Turmeric Tea, or Jamu Juice.  Golden Milk offers up a creamy tasty beverage with the addition of coconut milk, and increases the anti-inflammatory health benefits with the addition of ginger.

The health benefits of our Golden Milk recipe come primarily from three ingredients: turmeric, ginger and black peppercorns.

What Is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a colourful spice that has been used in foods and for its medicinal properties for thousands of years, and it is derived from grinding up the dried root (rhizome) of the turmeric.

Turmeric is quite distinct in its colour, flavour and it is very well known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. This is primarily due to one of its prominent active ingredients, curcumin. Just like vitamin C is to oranges, curcumin is to turmeric.

Curcumin is a polyphenol and in the plant world, it is the nutrient that is responsible for protecting turmeric from solar radiation, fungal disease and other kinds of damage. In the human body, curcumin has been shown to have a range of incredible medicinal benefits, one of which is its anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric Health Benefits

Numerous studies have shown the anti-inflammatory effects turmeric and curcumin provide, including:

  • Liver Health
  • Digestive Health
  • Relief of Arthritic Pain
  • Reducing Joint Inflammation
  • Brain Health

The Health Benefits of Black Pepper

Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is native to Asia and the most popular spice in the world. Black pepper is high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties.  However, it is most popular for its ability to boost nutrient absorption.  In particular, curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric.

Getting The Health Benefits Of Turmeric

Turmeric and curcumin are poorly absorbed from the G.I. tract but studies show that when taken with black pepper it improved the bioavailability by up to 2000%.
This Golden Milk recipe includes black pepper, to enhance the health benefits of turmeric.
